More than just a funky t-shirt - local business offers variety of customized apparel

Huntingdon/Camden, TN - You'll find more than just a "funky" old t-shirt at the web site of the
www.TheFunkyBanana.com. The local-area business offers a variety of customized apparel. Hundreds of standard designs to chose from... or watch your idea come to life.
"Skip" and Kristi (Hicks) Halsey, Huntingdon, have taken a "need" and turned it into an offered service. "Business and event wear is a commonly-needed, yet hard-to-attain item," said Skip, "and we just decided - with my wife's talent - we could make quite a business out of this."
Originally from Camden - Kristi is a graphic artist of over 20 years. She has done logo design, print shop work, newspaper/ad layout, web site design, silk screening, promotional items, vinyl cutting, and more. "Being artistically talented, doesn't give one a method of making a living - unless you can figure out a practical, sellable use for it," commented Kristi. "Listening to the customer, and trying to make THEIR visions come to life, seems to be my 'ticket' - I love watching reactions when they see the finished product. Whether I'm doing one t-shirt design, a website, a banner, a billboard, or a semi tractor trailer side... the thrill of the customer is what its all about for me."
The Funky Banana Shirt Company is a unique business originally based on one of the garment decorator industry's new technologies - the Natura® Digital Apparel System. Natura® offers an innovative method for digital cotton imaging. The key to the process is its unique cross-link toner chemistry. When the printed image is heat applied to the garment, the toner molecules become highly activated and turn to a gaseous state - creating both a physical and chemical "cross-link" with the cotton molecules.
In layman's terms, Skip explains, "In a nutshell, we print with dyes - in full color - on cottons and cotton blends. Unlike old dye sublimation processes that can only print on 100% polyester, the Natura® system lets us offer a 'wearable' finished product. The machine makes transfers that are all dye - with no 'rubbery' hand. The dye actually soaks into the fabric, making a very high-end product." Unlike screen printing procedures that pricing inflates with each added color, the Natura® product is not cost effected by the number of colors in the design. This system produces imprints of photographic quality with "straight across the board" pricing scale. Customers can purchase just a single garment, a dozen, or investigate the bulk pricing options. Garment decorators may purchase custom-design transfers at wholesale bulk pricing.
Branching out due to customer demands, The Funky Banana now is offering the full realm of the graphics industry including embroidery, silk screening, vinyl graphics and digital printing on not only apparel, but promotional items, banners, signs, vehicles, billboards, web sites, and even commercial printing. "It just seems to all happen together. The same customer - so happy with their artwork - wants that artwork on cups, caps, and banners to match their t-shirts," said Skip.
The company stocks quality, heavyweight, 50/50 blend t-shirts, sweatshirts and hooded sweatshirts in white and an ash gray for as soon as a one-day turnaround time. Other apparel items and colors can be ordered and provided in just a short two-day time frame. Screen printing, vinyl graphics, printing and promotional items within a couple of weeks after artwork is approved.
