Candlelight vigil for 3 murdered children

A national support group for sexually abused children held a candlelight vigil Thursday to honor three slain children from York County in South Carolina.

Several people holding candles participated in a service the National Guard Armory. It was sponsored by silentlambs (silentlambs.org), a support group for abused children in "religious institutional settings."

The Meza family were members of the Rock Hill Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. The children -- Jayro, 5; Denise, 8; and Denia, 14 -- died Aug. 9 before a fire engulfed their home. Authorities say they were slain by one of their parents -- Marbely or Jose Denis Meza -- who died in the fire.

Denis Meza had been arrested three weeks before on charges he molested Denia. York County Coroner Doug McKown said she'd also been raped within five days of her death.

A national spokesman for the Jehovah's Witnesses organization said that Meza "confessed" to church officials about sexually abusing his little girl.

According to some of the vigil participants there were no Jehovah's Witnesses present at the memorial service. "It's been very hard for our family to have coped with these deaths. ... I still do not know why their church was not here grieving here with us tonight," said Ariel Zeledon, Marbely Meza's brother.

Bill Bowen, director of silentlambs and a former member and elder of the cult from Calvert City, Kentucky, attended the vigil and announced the establishment of the Meza Children Memorial Fund.

"We don't know all the facts yet in the Meza family case -- what church elders knew about Denis Meza's abuse of his daughter and how long it took them to turn that information over to the authorities," said Cindy Fondren who helped organize the vigil. "But we do know there are many documented court cases in which church elders did not turn information about alleged sexual abuse involving church members to DSS or the police."

The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses has refused to comment about the Meza family. A nearby Christian church helped arrange the funeral and raise money for the family since no assistance was offered by their Jehovah's Witness organization, according to participants at the vigil.

The anguish and the agony of having to renounce the life-long convictions of my heart. The surreal horror to learn that it was all a LIE. I squandered my youthful vitality for a cult! For 33 years I went door to door with a Bible in my hand and Watchtower literature On the doorstep threshold of of my neighbors and of perfect strangers.....CONVINCED that unless I recruited you, that you and your family members were going to die!

Only to learn after the vital youth prime of my life has expired...that this was all a LIE! Not only that,,,but the promise that if i did all this recruiting work,I would be rewarded with eternal youth right here in Bangor Maine. Well, that's all a lie too! Sooo, what do I do now? Don't tell me to get a life and just forget about it! Real people, real sorrow, real watchtower family wrecking! I wasn't told even what year my beloved mother died! Now, you tell me what other religion that does this, think long and hard about this question?Would the Taliban, the Neo-Nazi skinheads or even Charles Manson deny one of it's subjects/members the right to know WHAT YEAR their mother died !! Think!

I had to look up my mom's death certificate on the Internet, when the database came up to speed. What about the rest my scattered family broken up by the Watchtower, are they dead or alive?
Final note: The Jehovah's Witnesses have FOUR TIMES the 'pedophiles per capita' as the Catholic church! This is due to the Elder enforced code of silence

comments: What scares me most right now is the fact that kids are walking home from school and there's a Kingdom Hall right in the school area here in Camden. I think we need police protection for our children to keep the Jehovah witnesses from harming our babies.

comments: I've been reading all about the Meza family and its relation with the Jehovah's Witnesses, and its incredible how the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society had reacted to this situation, denying any help, been absent on the memorial meeting or something else. The WT is worried only for its reputation and nothing more.... or maybe its money too. From Chile, Andres

comments: Please note there was a simultaneous support vigil in California for the Meza family, we feel the pain and share the sorrow thousands of miles away because ALL children, ANY children, are OUR children. Watchtower has many well-established anti-social doctrines such as 2-witnesses before crime is reported (since 1950's), scream if you're raped or be disfellowshipped (since 1964), NO mental helth care without approval of Watchtower appointed men (for a couple of decades), and a total lack of racial integration. These policies cost fragile and endangered people their very lives, and place a strain on our social support systems. It won't stop untill the public makes it stop by allowing injured adherents justice in the courts.

comments: It truly is a shame that Jehovah's Witnesses didnt offer to pay for their funerals. What a greedy self serving cult this is. A big Thank You is in order for that local church who paid for their funerals. Jehovah's Witnesses just showed the whole world what their true colors are.

comments: I feel in my heart the reason no one from the Kingdom Hall, that the Meza family attended, attended the vigil was due to a lack of compassion, love and consideration for the innocent family members. The elders and other members of the Kingdom Hall feared questioning concerning the rape and murders. It is a shame that the elders did not have the courage to attend, but rather thye turned their heads toward Satan, by not showing true Christian love. They claim they are disciples of Christ, this is a lie, because if Jesus were on earth today, he would not only be attending the vigil, but passing out candles and leading all in pray. Shame on you Watchtower! Once again you have proven that you are from your father the devil.

comments: The central core doctrine of the Jehovah's Witnesses is that Jesus Christ had his second coming in 1914. What do you think??
