Sewer system questions still go unanswered

Camden, TN - In a recent article in a local printed paper*, Karen Lynch states: "There have been questions regarding the repayment of the loan for the sewer system at the interstate. Lynch says there will be no tax increase and no cost to the county. The loan will be repaid from fees charged to hook on to the system. According to the charter, this system is not allowed to make money."

When asked for details about this "charter", Lynch stated that she was only saying what Jimmy Thornton "Told me to say".

What charter? Why can't we find information on this "charter" filed with the State? Is Karen the "Lynch-pin" of truth? Does she know more then she is telling? Why all of the secrets?

The State of Tennessee TDOT says they have "No intention" of connecting to this sewer system They stated that they "Just spent $80,000.00 revamping the systems at the rest stops on I-40 2 years ago and they are well with-in the guidelines"

In an interview with Mike Baloga on WFWL 1220 Baloga asked Thornton: "One other point that I'd like you to discuss about that block grant. The sewers going to tie in the rest stop…The state's going to pay?"

Thornton: "Yes."

Baloga: "…for tying in to that. Will their payment take care of the Benton County's portion of the block grant?"

Thornton: "It will take care of all the grant Mike. Uh…the rest areas aren't in compliance along with some other businesses at the interstate. The land won't perk and uh…uh…they will run no expense to the system, they'll run it up to the fence to hook on. And our uh…our goal I, I can see Mike, might not next year, I can see a frontage road from 126 to 133 I got that idea it could a frontage road and they've got everything from Ruby Tuesday's on. And, and, and, and one of the, and I, I can see that and, and, and we going to put the, the treatment plant at South Coxburg and I can see another exit. We've got to get into it seriously. I believe I can sell the State of Tennessee we need another exit and it would be wonderful if we had three exits with water, lights, gas, and sewer."

Baloga: "Well I hope the listening audience caught the fact that all of this grant was going to be paid for by..."

Thornton: "Yes"

Baloga: "the State tying into...."

Thornton: "Yes"

Baloga: "that sewer system."

Thornton: "Yes. We had to front we the uh…the sewer district is not a proven company. Uh…and it, and it was put in, I don't know one of my commissioners brought it to me whether it was in the paper or on the Internet that I had indebted Benton County for $600-$600,000. All we done is uh…is uh…the total project is $1.7, $500,000 grant to come out of that and this is where they say they are going to investigate me, I did go back to Nashville a-a-along with Wayne Odle the county executive at that time and we did try to get another half-million dollar grant from the clean water people which we didn't qualify because, well because $500,000 was all you can get per..."

Baloga: "Per year."

Thornton: "Yes and so I, I was trying to piggy back there and get another half-million and and it, it didn't work. But uh…uh…using the formula of that that the city's used uh…this project cannot make money. It cannot make money and, and, and they've, they've, this was on the Internet, I don't know if was in the paper or not, that I'm doing it for personally and, and I wished Stanley Medlin and Sam Long would loan me the money, uh…I would put it in, because it uh…private you can make money off of it. And I can still see all three exits and people doing business".

Those are the actual words used by Jimmy Thornton and Mike Baloga in that interview.

Why was the $50,000.00 that was paid out already left off of the total?

So, why all of the lies?

(By Joe Kyle. Words of Mike Baloga and Jimmy Thornton are exactly as they were given in the interview on WFWL 1220. *Camden Chronicle.) Discuss this article.
